These are unprecedented and uncertain times. The coronavirus pandemic has interrupted our everyday lives and brought routine activities to a standstill.
Many states are taking action by issuing state-specific emergency orders advising their residents on dealing with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
Our top priority remains taking precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees, their families, and our trading partners and communities—while continuing to serve our clients and policyholders.
Markel has activated business continuity plans across all of our global operations. These plans are to further ensure our ability to serve our stakeholders’ needs. In addition, we continue to monitor and follow the guidance of health authorities and government officials globally, regionally, and locally.

Markel understands these are tough times for everyone. We recognize the actions being taken to prevent further spread of the coronavirus may create a financial burden on many policyholders.
If you are a policyholder unable to pay your premium due to events related to COVID-19, please notify us. We are initiating a temporary 60-day voluntary hold on cancellations and nonrenewal notices—except in states where regulatory orders require a longer time period or stricter guidelines.
While we will continue to bill affected policyholders for premiums, payments will be deferred. In addition, Markel will not cancel for nonpayment and will waive any late fees during this hold. In all cases, Markel is following state regulatory guidelines, which we continue to monitor and evaluate every day. We are also committed to working with policyholders who have additional needs on a case-by-case basis.
If you are a commercial policyholder needing assistance, please contact your broker. For direct policyholders, contact your agent or your designated Markel Call Center.
Markel continues to process claims as needed, and we are available to answer your questions concerning COVID-19.
