Specialty treaty reinsurance

Markel’s specialty reinsurance team sources business through the broker market. We target clients with strong balance sheets, demonstrated market expertise, a proven management strategy, and the ability to provide comprehensive exposure data. We also analyze and differentiate each cedant on their own merits. Our underwriting approach includes evaluation of deals using underwriting judgment and historic experience, as well as a balance of quantitative and qualitative underwriting techniques.
