London, 7 August, 2025 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced two key appointments to drive further profitable growth across its Fine Art & Specie portfolio.
Alison Sweeney has been appointed Underwriting Specialist – Fine Art & Specie. In her new role, Sweeney will be responsible for underwriting new business and renewals, while continuing to develop strong relationships with clients and brokers to ensure best-in-class underwriting services. Sweeney will be based in New York but serve as a key contributor to business development efforts across the country.
In addition, Ije Ejim has joined Markel’s Fine Art & Specie team as a Senior Underwriter. Based in Orlando, Ejim will be focused on driving the profitable expansion of the Fine Art portfolio in Florida, while working closely with the team to continue supporting broker partners, clients and producers in their home territories.
Both Ejim and Sweeney will report to Kyle McGrath, Head of Fine Art & Specie – North America.
McGrath comments: “The Fine Art and Specie market continues to evolve, shaped by the impact of shifting global dynamics, geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory developments and the growing threat of natural catastrophes. Alison’s extensive experience in the US Fine Art market equips her with a thorough understanding of our clients’ needs, which will enable her to work closely with brokers and partners to find bespoke solutions to their complex risks. Ije’s background in ultra-high-net-worth insurance brings a unique perspective and will unlock new relationships for the team.
“I’m delighted to have both Alison and Ije on board as part as we continue to expand our team – they both bring a diverse skillset and understanding of the market and will help to strengthen Markel’s position as a leading fine art & specie insurer.”
Sweeney joins Markel with 19 years of experience in fine art evaluation and insurance, specialising in both public and private collections throughout the US art market. Previously, she was founding member and Vice President, Fine Art Expert for start-up insurance programme, Distinguished Fine Art and Collectibles. Ejim brings more than 16 years of underwriting experience and previously held senior fine art underwriting positions at Zurich and AIG Private Client Group.
