Markel reinforces APAC growth ambitions with appointment of Abbas Choker as Chief Financial Officer, Asia Pacific

Singapore, 29 July 2026 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), today announced the appointment of Abbas Choker as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Asia Pacific, with immediate effect.

Abbas joins Markel as the business continues to strengthen its presence across Asia Pacific. His appointment reflects the company's long-term commitment to the region and its strategy of empowering exceptional local leaders to support clients, brokers and partners.

Based in Singapore, Abbas will be responsible for leading Markel's APAC finance function and supporting the firm's continued expansion across the region. He will join the APAC leadership team, reporting into Sucheng Chang, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, and partner with Andy Davies, Chief Financial Officer, International.

Abbas joins Markel from AIG, where he served as Regional Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, APAC. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, having held a range of finance leadership roles across Asia Pacific, including Australia and multiple Asian markets. Throughout his career, he has led regional finance teams, built and scaled finance capabilities, and partnered closely with leadership teams to drive commercial success and sustainable financial performance. This broad regional experience, coupled with his Arabic language capabilities, will also support Markel's business across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
