Markel appoints Doan Nguyen to Managing Director of its Specialty division in London

London, 04 August 2026 – Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), today announced Doan Nguyen as Managing Director – Specialty for its London Market operation, effective immediately.

Nguyen will lead Markel’s Specialty division in London, setting its strategic direction and supporting continued profitable growth across Trade Credit, Political Risk & Surety (TCPRS), Equine & Livestock, International Casualty, Structured Portfolio Solutions and Political Violence & Terror.

Her appointment marks a further step in the evolution of Markel’s London Market leadership structure, following the appointments of Dan McCarthy as Managing Director – Marine, Energy & Construction, and Bhavik Desai as Managing Director – PFR & Cyber.

Nguyen succeeds Tom Hillier, who was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer for Markel International earlier this year. Based in London, she’ll report to Rohan Davies, Managing Director – London Market at Markel International.

Her experience leading international portfolios and driving innovation will be hugely valuable as we continue to develop specialist solutions, strengthen broker relationships and grow with discipline.”

Nguyen joins Markel from Allianz Commercial, where she most recently served as Global Head of Portfolio Solutions. During more than 12 years with Allianz Commercial, she also held senior roles including UK Head of Specialty and Global Head of Specialty Strategy.

Nguyen brings more than 18 years’ experience across claims, underwriting, strategy, innovation and portfolio leadership. In her new role, she will focus on working with underwriting teams to support disciplined underwriting performance, portfolio optimisation, product development and broker and client engagement across Markel’s Specialty lines.
