Markel appoints Flora Mao as first Casualty underwriter in Mainland China


Shanghai, 14 January, 2026 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced the appointment of Flora Mao as Senior Casualty Underwriter for Markel Underwriting Division at Lloyd’s China, with immediate effect.

Mao joins the Greater China team as the first Casualty underwriter based in Shanghai, where Markel underwrites through the Lloyd’s China platform. She will focus on building Markel’s leadership position in General Liability and wider Casualty lines.

Reporting to Qianhai Hu, Director of Underwriting at Markel Underwriting Division at Lloyd’s China, Mao will be responsible for developing Markel’s General Liability book, managing a portfolio of risks and fostering relationships with both new and existing brokers, distribution partners and clients across the region.

Mao brings with her more than 23 years of Casualty underwriting experience, having previously held roles at AIG China, where she served as Casualty Underwriting Manager for 15 years, and at Liberty Specialty Markets in China, where she was Senior Casualty Underwriter for over eight years.
