Markel appoints Head of Distribution and MGA Strategy in Australia

Sydney, 10 October, 2025 – Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced the appointment of Scott Luxford as Head of Distribution and Managing General Agent (MGA) Strategy – Australia, with immediate effect.

Based in Sydney, Luxford will be responsible for working with Australian-based brokers, MGAs and other distribution partners to identify opportunities and highlight how they can benefit from the scale of Markel’s trading relationships. His appointment continues Markel’s approach to having a strong local presence in Australia, with on-the-ground capabilities to support new and existing Australian brokers and customers.

Luxford will also be part of Markel’s growing global wholesale distribution strategy and broker development team, led by Dan Martin, Managing Director - Distribution Strategies & Business Development, which has been focused on creating new opportunities and deepening relationships by building trust and relevance with key international MGAs.

He will report to Rory Morison, Managing Director – Australia.

Luxford joins Markel from Harland Green, where he was Head of Distribution and part of the founding team. Prior to that, he was Executive Director of 360 Professional and Financial Risks, where he founded and grew the business to a fully operational specialist Financial Lines underwriting agency. Luxford has also held senior leadership roles at QBE Australia and Zurich Financial Services Australia, prior to which he was employed in senior financial lines underwriting roles at Allianz Australia Limited and ACE Group (now Chubb).
