Markel International, London
As part of our commitment to claims excellence, Markel International welcomed brokers from across the London Market to discover and learn at the organisation’s Claims Insight Day. The day provided junior to mid-level claims brokers with an opportunity to acquire new skills, strengthen relationships, and learn more about Markel’s claims handling service first-hand.
The event took place at Markel’s London office in Fenchurch Street, where Chris O’Shea, claims director for wholesale at Markel International, stressed the importance of Markel’s commitment to developing and investing in the claims workforce of the future.
Adding to his sentiment, Simon Wilson, president of Markel International, emphasised the valuable contribution of insurance to society and its significant impact on the global economy, with claims at the forefront of that important role.
Our claims professionals, and the brokers they work with, serve and support clients when they need it the most and so making sure we’re investing in the next generation – equipping them with the tools and knowledge so that they can provide an exceptional claims service – is a priority for Markel.
Members of the claims team hosted a presentation on the organisation’s Mentoring the Market programme – an initiative co-founded by Markel International which currently supports over 350 professionals across the London Market – followed by a roundtable session, focusing on complex claims. The claims teams then worked with attendees in a shadowing-style exercise, to demonstrate and explore how the claims division operates – providing a valuable insight into core processes and systems, as well as how it interacts with other departments in the business. This collaborative approach is vital when it comes to paying claims quickly and efficiently for clients.
“The feedback we have received from our inaugural Claims Insight Day has been extremely positive,” said O’Shea. “The day provided our claims brokers with valuable knowledge and know-how from our expert claims team, was provided at a crucial time given the turbulent events of the past two years, and will continue to build cohesion between Markel and its brokers ensuring we continue delivering a first-class claims service to our shared clients.”
Brokers welcomed the opportunity to get to know peers and described the event as “relatable, informative, and insightful,” while others said it was “great to see how claims progress” at the organisation and “highly recommend” other brokers to get involved in these events in the future.
Markel International has confirmed that another Claims Insight Day will be taking place later this year. More details on the event will be available in due course.
