Markel International Strengthens Greater China PFR and Cyber Team with Two Strategic Appointments

Hong Kong, 16 February 2026 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), today announced the appointments of Johnny Zhang as Senior Underwriter and Jon Tam as Underwriter to its Professional and Financial Risks (PFR) and Cyber team in Greater China, effective immediately.

Both Zhang and Tam will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to April Tam, who leads the Hong Kong PFR and Cyber team.

In his role, Zhang will focus on Management Liability and the development of new product initiatives, especially within AI-related segments. Tam will be looking after the Commercial Professional Indemnity (PI) book and will drive Markel’s geographical expansion into North Asia.

Prior to joining Markel, Zhang was Financial Lines Underwriting Manager at Ping An, focusing on Management Liability, and previously with AIG Financial Lines. His deep knowledge of the Mainland Chinese market and product development expertise will be critical as Markel develops solutions for AI-driven exposures and emerging risks.

Tam brings extensive experience in Financial and Professional lines and is a specialist in Professional Indemnity and Management Liability insurance. He joined Starr in 2018, and most recently held the role of Senior Underwriting Manager with responsibility for the Financial Lines portfolio in Hong Kong. Before Starr, Tam held key underwriting and broking positions at firms including Marsh and Chubb.
