Markel strengthens Asia Leadership Team with appointment of John Bang as Head of Korea and Japan

Singapore, 11 February, 2026 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced the appointment of John Bang as its inaugural Head of Korea and Japan, with immediate effect.

Bang will lead Markel International's operations across Korea and Japan, strengthening the division’s presence in these key markets, with a focus on developing its wholesale business. He will be responsible for launching Markel International's Japan and Korea desks, overseeing business development and deepening relationships with local partners and cedents.

The appointment reflects Markel International's continued commitment to expanding its footprint in the Asia Pacific region, building on the significant momentum achieved to date. Korea and Japan represent important growth markets for Markel, offering considerable opportunities to expand its presence in the specialist insurance sector.

Bang joins from Zurich Insurance Company Ltd, where he worked for over a decade in leadership positions across Asia, most recently as Head of Country Desks, Asia & Global Relationship Leader. He brings extensive experience in the insurance industry across Korea and Japan, with a strong background in Marine Underwriting and Business Development.
