Markel strengthens Marine capabilities in Greater China with Shanghai-based Marine Risk Engineer appointment

Shanghai, 16 July 2026 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), today announced the appointment of Vincent Wang as Risk Engineer – Marine for Markel Underwriting Division at Lloyd’s China, with immediate effect.

Based in Shanghai, Wang will support the continued development of Markel's Marine risk management and Marine business capabilities in Greater China, working closely with underwriting teams and engaging with clients and brokers across the market. His appointment comes as marine risks in Greater China increase in scale and complexity, driven by evolving trade flows, offshore activity and more sophisticated supply chains, creating greater demand for local, specialist expertise.

Markel has continued to build its Marine capabilities across Asia Pacific in recent years, expanding its underwriting expertise and product offering across cargo, hull and marine liability risks. Wang’s appointment forms part of Markel’s broader investment in marine risk engineering across Asia Pacific, alongside the recently announced hire of Sjoerd as Marine Risk Engineer for Asia Pacific. Together, the two roles give Markel dedicated marine risk engineering expertise across the region, with Wang sharpening the focus on Greater China by strengthening the insurer’s on-the-ground presence to better support clients and brokers and capture growing opportunities in the market.

Wang joins with more than 16 years of experience across marine operations, surveying and engineering consultancy. He began his career at sea with COSCO Shipping, where he spent more than 13 years progressing through the ranks to serve as a certified Captain. He has since held roles with CCS‑TM Surveying International and ABL Group, gaining experience across condition surveys, loss investigations and marine warranty work, including complex towage operations and offshore projects.

In his new role, Wang will work closely with underwriting teams to support risk discussions, contribute to client engagement and provide insight into exposures across Greater China’s marine sector. He will also play a key role in strengthening relationships with clients and brokers and supporting the continued profitable growth of the business in the region.

This appointment builds on Markel’s continued investment in its Greater China platform, as it expands its presence and deepens its underwriting capabilities to support clients and brokers across the region.
