Ahmed Farag

Ahmed joined Markel in October 2023 as Head of Casualty for Markel Australia. Ahmed has over 16 years' experience in insurance, starting at AIG in 2008 as a portfolio analyst on the Consumer Lines team. He quickly transitioned into a casualty underwriting role and progressed through the ranks, being promoted in his last role at AIG to Senior Underwriter. Ahmed seized an opportunity to move to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2016 to help build their Casualty business in Australia. Ahmed earnt the highest level of underwriting authority globally at Swiss Re and was officially given the title of ‘expert underwriter’, assisting in building and developing the Swiss Re Australia and Asia Pac portfolio, holding his last role as Casualty portfolio leader for Australia and New Zealand.

At Markel, Ahmed is responsible for the development, profitability, and strategic direction of Markel's Casualty business in Australia.

Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with majors in Accounting and Economics. He lives in Melbourne and is married with two young sons. Ahmed enjoys playing sport with his boys, a bit of golf or some overall quality family time. He follows the Hawthorn Hawks AFL team and is a strong Manchester United supporter on the EPL side.
