Managing Director, Marine, Energy and Construction
Dan joined Markel in March 2010 as an Underwriter in our Hull & War team, progressing to head of class in 2019, Director of Marine in 2023, and Managing Director of the Marine, Energy and Construction division in 2026. He began his insurance career at Allianz Cornhill in 1998, holding roles in Cargo, Marine Excess of Loss and Hull & War.
Dan is responsible for the four specialist business units within the division: Construction & Engineering, Energy & Power, Marine Transportation, and Cargo, Fine Art & Specie.
Dan lives in Essex with his wife, two children and two Labradors, and enjoys spending time with his family. His hobbies include fitness, playing golf and fishing when time allows. He is also a keen Liverpool FC supporter.
