Jim Taylor joined in 2005, when he sold his brokerages to Markel. He worked in A&H business development from 2005-2012 and corporate business development from 2012-2015. He moved to the Markel International Marine and Energy team in 2016. Jim began his insurance career in 1979 as a sales representative at Liberty Mutual before being promoted to sales management. In 1987, he was recruited to join Near North Insurance Brokerage in a sales management role.

In 1990, Jim started an independent brokerage (Midland Insurance Group) with two partners where he was a broker (wholesale and retail) and held management roles. In 1997, they became an MGA/TPA for Markel A&H, before the 2005 acquisition. Jim is responsible for building new relationships with agents/brokers who have business within our areas of appetite. He also strengthens current agent/broker relationships and acts as a conduit between agents or brokers and Markel underwriters.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University.
