Head of Marine Liability
Rhys joined Markel in September 2024 as Senior Underwriter, Marine & Energy Liability. He was promoted to Head of Marine Liability in 2026.
Rhys has more than a decade of experience in marine liability insurance. He joined Markel from QBE, where he worked as a Marine Liability Underwriter from October 2022, managing a diverse portfolio of risks across a range of marine liability lines. Prior to this, he spent nine years at The Standard Club, where he underwrote predominantly European-based business. He began his career in 2012 in forensic accounting at RGL Forensics.
Rhys is responsible for leading Markel’s Marine Liability offering in London, with a focus on underwriting strategy for new and renewing business across the Marine & Energy Liability International portfolio, as well as maintaining and strengthening relationships with clients, brokers, partners and internal teams.
He holds a BA in Modern Languages, Italian and Spanish, from the University of Birmingham and is CII qualified.
