London, 29 September, 2025 — Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced the appointment of Clarice Francis as Operations Manager for War and Terrorism, effective immediately.
Based at Markel’s London office, Francis will focus on enhancing operational efficiency within the International War and Terrorism team, which includes working alongside the business’s management, claims, actuarial and product development departments to provide in-depth analysis and auditing of services. This will help strengthen Markel’s War and Terrorism portfolio underwriting policies and procedures for clients and brokers.
Reporting to Ed Winter, Director of Terrorism at Markel International, Francis will support the organisation’s head of regions across Asia, the UK and U.S., to create new initiatives to drive efficiency projects. She’ll also collaborate with broking partners to enhance risk assessment, streamline processes and manage underwriting relationships to offer a seamless experience and further position Markel as a leading insurer in the political violence (PV) market.

An experienced insurance professional within the Lloyd’s market, Francis joins from Hiscox, where she specialised in operations management and project delivery. During her time at the insurance carrier, Francis was promoted twice in short succession, from Operations Technician to Senior Operations Technician and then Operations Team Manager, which she held for four years.
Prior to Hiscox, Francis completed a six-month law internship at Kennedys in Spain. This combination of operational expertise and international exposure equips her to spearhead underwriting efficiency and broker collaboration within Markel’s International War and Terrorism team.
