2025 key initiatives and what’s new
The Markel Specialty Wholesale mission is to be the market leader for US excess and surplus lines. We are dedicated to providing creative wholesale solutions and are excited to share some of our key initiatives for this year.
Making Markel’s B.E.S.T. better in 2025
We’re committing to making Markel’s B.E.S.T. even better in 2025.
What’s new/coming soon:

Primary casualty wholesale
- Adding NEW eligible classes to Markel’s B.E.S.T.: 89 for premises risks, 26 classes for products occurrence and 49 for claims made)
- New claims-made form and improved rates

Healthcare
- New coverage enhancement endorsement to include defense of license coverage, trial attendance supplementary payment, subpoena assistance, evacuation expenses, crisis management and loss of patient's personal property.
- Additional enhancements may include HIPAA coverage, sexual acts liability, coverage for independent contractors, enhanced medical director coverage, blanket additional insureds, defense in addition to limits, damages only deductibles.

- Enhanced clearance process coming soon to identify B.E.S.T. classes
- Property “best of the best” classes:
- Offices
- Health care facilities
- Museums
- Retail occupancies
- Service occupancies – veterinary offices, packaging stores, diagnostic/testing laboratories, dental labs
Weather related catastrophe coverages can be considered for any of these risks.

- Flexible minimum deposit on energy accounts
- Pricing flexibility on casualty service contractors in the form of additional credits and include a sublimit for the professional coverage where not already provided
- Increased revenue threshold for the primary lead excess up to 50 million for manufacturers and distributors
- Unsupported high excess for manufacturers and distributors
Markel Online enhancements
We're continuing to invest in our class leading E&S small business platform, Markel Online, in 2025. We're excited to launch new offerings and enhancements this year which will continue to position Markel as one of your leading carrier partners in the Binding P&C space.
