Markel appoints Jamie Smith to London Underwriting Manager – US Cyber Lead

London, 9 March, 2026 – Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced the appointment of Jamie Smith as London Underwriting Manager – US Cyber Lead, effective immediately. His arrival underscores Markel's continued investment in specialist talent within its Cyber business.

In his new role, Smith will manage the US Cyber segment of Markel’s London Market Cyber portfolio, working closely with actuarial teams on portfolio analysis and strategic planning to drive further profitable growth. His responsibilities will include leading broker engagement, overseeing pipeline management and supporting the ongoing enhancement of underwriting policies, ensuring clients continue to receive bespoke and robust insurance solutions.

Smith will collaborate across the business, including with Markel’s London Market Claims team, to support client engagement, identify business development opportunities and monitor claims trends to inform underwriting strategy and coverage for policyholders.

He will also contribute to refining Markel’s flexible and innovative cyber products and services by engaging with clients to understand their evolving risk needs and developing unique and alternative solutions. In addition, Smith will mentor junior underwriters in the London Cyber and Technology PI underwriting team, while helping improve operational effectiveness to maintain and deliver high-quality services, which is valued by broker partners.

Smith will be based in London and report directly to Dan Fox, Head of Cyber at Markel International.

Smith brings more than a decade of experience in the insurance industry, specialising in cyber and technology errors and omissions (E&O) risks within the London market. Prior to joining Markel, he spent four years as a Senior Cyber Underwriter at Arch Insurance International and has previously held underwriting roles at Barbican Insurance Group and CFC Underwriting.
